the most overlooked puzzle piece to healing your acne

Healing acne isn’t easy. There’s no sugar-coating it. It’s SIMPLE but not easy. And one of the most overlooked puzzle pieces (and arguably the most important one to make or break most people’s healing journeys) is mindset shifts.

Why is this important to address? Well, for one, your brain loves to stay in a place of comfort and familiarity. And doing things differently than we’ve ever done can be difficult.

But again, if we don’t address mindset shifts (and your regulating your nervous system) - it can be extremely difficult to heal your skin and overcome the expected obstacles that life throws at you.

What would healing your acne ACTUALLY mean for you ? How would clearing your skin positively impact your life? How would you feel with clear skin? Do you believe you deserve clear skin? What does your support system look like? What is standing in your way of clear skin?

Believe it or not, the way we think and feel about our skin can have a huge impact on how well it heals. Stress and anxiety can make acne worse, creating a frustrating cycle where breakouts lead to more stress, which leads to more breakouts - most of us have been there and it SUCKS.

Think about it this way: instead of seeing acne as the enemy, what if we viewed it as our body's way of telling us something is off balance? This shift in perspective can encourage us to treat our skin with more compassion and take a more holistic approach to our health. When we're kinder to ourselves, our skin often reflects that inner calm.

It can be challenging to break old habits and adopt new ways of thinking, but those shifts are essential. To truly see results, we often need to do things differently than we've ever done before. This might mean incorporating practices like mindfulness, meditation, and self-love into our daily routine. This might mean reevaluating our personal relationships and the environment we live in. This might mean making sacrifices and getting out of our comfort zone. This could mean many things depending on the case!

Healing acne is a marathon, not a sprint. And having someone by your side that can help you to navigate all the ebbs and flows without going down the dreaded Dr. Google search at 11 PM can be so beneficial. And of course, even though mindset shifts don’t happen overnight, one of my favorite tips is to incorporate positive affirmations into your daily routine. Some examples include…

  1. "My skin is healthy, radiant, and glowing."

  2. "I am grateful for my clear and beautiful skin."

  3. "Every day, my skin becomes clearer and healthier."

  4. "I nourish my skin from the inside out with healthy choices."

  5. "I am confident in my skin and feel beautiful."

  6. "My skin reflects my inner peace and well-being."

  7. "I love and care for my skin, and it shows."

  8. "I am patient with my skin as it heals and improves."

  9. "I release stress and embrace a calm and peaceful mindset."

  10. "I am committed to taking care of my skin and my health."

Start by choosing a few affirmations that resonate with you. Repeat these affirmations each morning and night while looking in the mirror, allowing the words to sink in and uplift your mindset. You can also write them down in a journal, post them on sticky notes around your home, or set reminders on your phone throughout the day!
