Hormonal Acne Isn’t a Skincare Problem

Okay you guys..we need to talk. If I see one more person on social media claim that a skincare product healed their “hormonal” acne, I’m going to lose it.

That’s because skincare, no matter how high-end or scientifically backed, isn’t enough to heal hormonal acne. And here’s why:

1. Hormonal Acne is an Inside Job

Plain and simple, hormonal acne and hormonal imbalances originate INTERNALLY. Whether it be driven by imbalances in hormones like testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, or insulin..all these factors are INTERNALLY driven. Things that no cleanser or serum can fix.

2. The Gut-Skin Connection

If your hormones are playing a role, your gut (and drainage pathways) are playing a role. If you have imbalances like gut dysbiosis, poor digestion, or sluggish detox pathways, your body has a harder time eliminating excess hormones and toxins. This can lead to inflammation and, you guessed it - “hormonal acne”.

And again, no topical product will fix a gut imbalance.

3. Blood Sugar & Stress - two missing pieces

Two of the most underrated root causes of hormonal acne? Blood sugar dysregulation and chronic stress.

Frequent blood sugar spikes (from skipping meals, eating too much sugar, or relying on caffeine) can drive up insulin and androgens, leading to more oil production. Similarly, chronic stress keeps cortisol high, which can further throw off hormones and inflammation.

So when we talk about hormonal acne..it’s not JUST sex hormone driven.

So, Does Skincare Even Matter?

Yes, of course! But only as a supportive tool, not a cure. A well-formulated routine can help reduce inflammation, repair the skin barrier, and minimize breakouts while you address the internal root causes.

All in all, it’s time to shift the focus to the root cause. Healing hormonal acne takes more than a 10-step routine or “magic” serum. It takes addressing what’s actually happening inside your body.
