Signs of a hormonal imbalance
The term hormonal imbalance gets thrown around over social media..but what does it actually mean and how do you know if you have one? Let’s get into it!
It’s essentially an umbrella term as we have many different hormones (sex hormones, adrenal hormones, growth hormones, hunger hormones, etc.) that all work together. Your hormones are a key part of your endocrine system and are how different body systems work together to communicate with one another. Depending on which hormone is imbalanced, symptoms will present differently!
There are many things that can contribute to a hormonal imbalance including things like adrenal dysfunction, gut dysbiosis, medications, lifestyle habits, diet, poor sleep habits, and more.
Some common signs and symptoms of a hormonal imbalance include:
Fatigue
Chronic skin issues (acne, eczema)
Menstrual irregularities (PMS, longer cycles, painful/heavy cycles)
Trouble sleeping
Difficulty losing weight
Mood changes
Headaches
Brain fog
Abnormal hair loss/growth
Heat/cold intolerance
Digestive issues
Changes in libido
And more!
As we are multi-faceted human beings, balancing hormones requires us to take a whole-person view to make sure we address every single body system. If you find yourself identifying with any of these symptoms, it is important to get worked up by a licensed medical professional with adequate lab testing to treat the root of your symptoms. Please don’t guess!
